Lake Erie, once declared dead and recovered, began showing signs of distress again in the mid 1990s. The EcoFore project, short for Ecological Forecasting, created, tested and applied models to forecast how human and natural stresses influence hypoxia.
Do dead zones affect all fish the same? What were some of the outcomes of the project models? What factors are contributing to Lake Erie’s dead zones? Explore these and other questions through the “Key Findings” page.
This website is the culmination of the research project, including a final report with a set of management and policy options. It should be a good resource for others seeking information on Lake Erie hypoxia, modeling approaches for guiding decisions, and technical guidance on approaches to reduce hypoxia.
